Scientific collaboration:
We believe that the knowledge on ecological and socio-cultural systems of Amazon are fundamental to conserve the region. The participation of international scientists and organizations is essential to find alternative means of the sustainable economic development in the region. The
"Center of Ornamental Fish Studies and
Conservation" in Barcelos (mid-Rio Negro) is a field station, which can provide laboratories, office and local logistics for visitors. At present, we have a modest dormitory, several laboratory and office spaces in the Center. The Center will gradually become better equipped to meet the need of scientists and projects.
Brazilian law requires foreign scientists and organizations to work with a local sponsor for field investigation and data collecting in the Amazon. Visiting scientists, students and organizations may propose collaborative projects with a local sponsor and make a formal request to CNPq (National Science & Technology Development Council) through an agreement with the Universidade do Amazonas or other institutions.
