Project Piaba welcomes volunteers to work in the field, especially during the peak fishing season (October to March) for 3-6 months in Barcelos. The major tasks are to sort and count fishes, maintain aquarium exhibition, trips with local fishers and other necessities of the project. Barcelos is in "rural" Amazon, a typical meal in town consist of fish, maniocs (cassava) flour, rice, noodles and beans. Volunteers must be flexible enough to adapt to local culture and strenuous working conditions. Knowledge of Portuguese or Spanish is extremely helpful. To be able to pay your own return trip to Manaus, Brazil is essential. The project can provide each volunteer with free dormitory, food allowance (equivalent to one local salary, $100/month) and a round trip boat travel between Manaus and Barcelos every five weeks. If you are interested in volunteering, please send a brief statement on why are you interest in the Project Piaba and what can you help, a C.V. and a reference letter to us.
